Bethany Christian Trust is an Edinburgh based charity that helps to support and prevent homelessness in Scotland. The trust supports over 7000 people across Scotland. Their vision is that through Christian love in action, homelessness will be reduced and vulnerable people will be empowered to live independent lives in society.



The Challenge

Bethany Christian Trust’s previous website was old and outdated, so they approached us here at Teviot and asked us to use our digital skills to build and design them a brand new website. The team at Bethany made it clear to us that the new site must show people who they are, showcase the great work that they do, and to have an easy way for people to donate to the trust.

Review the content on Bethany’s previous site and select the information that would best suit the new site.

Ensure that there was more than one link on the homepage for people to donate to the trust.

Ensure that the donations page itself, which is actually a separate website called ‘Everyday Hero’, matched the design of the Bethany Christian Trust’s main homepage, so that users wouldn’t feel like that they have been taken to a completely new and untrustworthy website for donations.

How did we do it?

To get things started we drew up a thorough project specification with the client, which presented all of their aims and requirements for the project. The next logical step was to study the analytic data of the original site to determine any areas that needed to be worked on, for example bounce rate and session duration.

Bethany Christian Trust underwent a full digital re-brand and the new site was built using the latest UX techniques. The front end was built using HTML, CSS utilizing other libraries and frameworks (jQuery and Bootstrap). The content from the previous site was reviewed and tweaked to ensure that the new site had the most relevant information. Teviot also worked on the CMS setup and integration, ensuring that it was custom-made to suit the requirements of Bethany.

The new site is fully responsive and was tested on all modern browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera) and on mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Blackberry).
